In 2025, my community proposal was chosen as a featured Beacon Project during Halifax’s Nocturne Art At Night festival. Based on the event’s theme of “ground”, I created a giant temporary mural of the world at ground level. Painting linework of recognizable plants and insects on a large scale, particiants were invited to help colour it in and make their mark on the city with hand-made chalks (which I also ground up to make).
"Drawn To It" was an idea to do temporary sidewalk drawings and have folks colour it in with chalk---but this project ended up being so much more than that. About 200+ folks took part, joyfully colouring in spaces and making their own drawings of foxes, flowers, spaceships, bees and butterflies bringing the sidewalk to electric life. While I was painting the block-length sidewalk in advance of the event, many folks stopped to ask questions, comment on how nice it made the space (and little ones got VERY excited hearing they would be colouring it in themselves). While I made, planned and carried out the framework for this project, it’s really the folks of Halifax who took part and made this lovely mural.
